Welcome to my site. Please allow me to take a moment of your time to introduce myself to you.
I am a licensed psychologist in Monument, Colorado just beyond the Colorado Springs northern city limit. My doctorate is in Clinical Psychology. I specialize in working with adults who have experienced traumatic events and/or who have long-standing problems that cause distress.
What My Client can Expect
With commitment, you can experience relief from symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ("PTSD"), a lightening of grief, better relationships, and improved control of anger and anxiety. You can also lighten your depression and heal the wounds of trauma - including combat, the experience of or exposure to abuse, and other frightening events. You are likely to learn a lot about how your brain works and how your past is influencing your present and possible future. You are also likely to learn more about your emotions, how to identify them, and how to use the information they give. Self-esteem and self-acceptance will also be an important part of our collaboration. Increased freedom to intentionally choose your path with eyes wide open can be yours.
My Approach
I see therapy as a collaborative relationship with the goal of understanding you and discovering ways to make your life the life you want. I do not believe that therapy has to be only painful or anxiety-provoking, although it is likely to be at times. Together, we will build a therapy relationship that also includes moments of laughter. My philosophy is insight- or depth-oriented. As an integrative psychologist, my methods are drawn from the diverse theories of growth and healing that make up modern psychology, as they are appropriate and likely to be most helpful to you. The unique person that you are deserves therapy that is tailored for you, and you are always welcome to decline or give feedback about any method I suggest without judgment or disapproval on my part. In other words, I may have expert knowledge about psychology, but you have expert knowledge about you.
My Experience
I worked for more than 6 years for the U.S. Army at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Behavioral Health. During those 6 years, I provided care to active duty soldiers, airmen, corpsmen, sailors who experienced combat or other traumatic events. I also have experience working with first responders, including crisis counselors, nurses, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and police officers. I have more than 15 years of experience working with adults who experienced abuse in childhood and people who survived rape and other assaults. I also work with people experiencing depression, grief, loneliness, coping difficulties, and problems with anger. My practice is LGBTQ friendly.
My Education
I earned a Master's degree in psychology from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and a PsyD from the Colorado School of Professional Psychology (now The University of the Rockies).
Fees
Generally, my fee is $100 per session. My goal is to make working with me affordable for you, so please discuss it with me if you feel you cannot pay the regular fee. I reserve a limited number of appointments for military personnel, veterans, and first responders at a rate of $25 per session. Weekend and evening appointments are available. Blue Cross/Blue Shield has reimbursed clients for my fees. I do not bill insurance companies, although insurance companies may reimburse for care given by me as an out-of-network provider. Those reimbursements are made directly to you, and you should contact your insurance company for information.
I will be glad to answer any questions you may have if you call (719)600-8468. Office Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday 10:00 am-7:00 pm.
